Psychic Tip for the Week: Dead Relatives Aren’t Always Wise

I haven’t written in so long in here! I’m a little rusty. Last thing I wrote was a long-winded thesis paper for Graduate School. I’ve given the site a little pick-me-up and upgrade to match the new energy. I hope you like it. Each week or so I would love to share a little tip I learned along the intuitive way. The past few years living through Covid World I had to rely on my intuitive abilities to the max, like most of us. My family went through a major mental health crisis that I needed to feel my support and spiritual grounding underneath me. One of the biggest lessons I learned is which voices to trust.

Years and years ago I approached my therapist and worried about what many psychic folks worry about when they are coming into their abilities, Was I going crazy? Was I struggling with a mental illness? Did I just eat too many Twinkies and Kool-Aid in the sixties growing up and now it was hitting my mental capacities? She reassured me that I probably did eat way too many Twinkies but I was going to be just fine mentally and I was different than most. I could hear and see spirits. Oddly enough, I worried about the same thing when I went to the eye doctor a few years ago after I was seeing things, this time, new things. She checked out my eyes, gave a thorough exam and then told me some special people have the ability to see. Fast forward to years later, the present, and I have learned from many experiences and many clients later with much validation of details I would have not known otherwise, I have accepted my ability that I’ve had since I was very young. Along side that ability I needed to learn Discernment.

Just because you can hear/see/pick up messages, doesn’t mean what you are hearing is the gospel. Through the tough times in the last few years I had many spirits coming to visit. Some helpful, some intrusive. And here’s some things I learned to share:

  • If it sounds OFF, it usually is. I had an odd rash and I heard a spirit come in that said it was Purpora. At least that is what I thought it sounded like! After googling like crazy, turns out that wasn’t it at all and put me in a tailspin for several days. A trip to the dermatologist confirmed I was going to live and didn’t have that disease. So…
  • If the message puts you in FEAR, it is definitely not guidance. It could be a passing by Spirit you picked up at the metaphysical store and went home with you, or a well-meaning dead Grandma who didn’t always give you good advice. Which leads me to…
  • Just because your relative is dead and you loved them, does not mean they are all-knowing and have great advice for you. This is a big one! Spirits have the same personalities as when they were alive, and yes, they do progress and learn like we do, but they will often give the kind of advice they would give before death. I would often take my dead relative’s advice as THE TRUTH and thought they knew all the goings-on in my life, seen from a Higher perspective, but they are not that tapped in as I would think. It’s probably a better idea to tap into or talk to your Higher Self (your soul) or Guardian Angels who have the big picture of your situation.
  • Trust your gut. You know what is best for you. I had many readings from fellow intuitives that were very, very off. (Some were very spot-on, I don’t want to disregard those and those are the ones I will go to for extra help.) A reader/intuitive can often read the situation you are in and the surface or even what is happening right there in the moment. For instance, if I was having a bad day and in that moment felt like everyone is out to get me because everything isn’t going right, a reader could pick up on my energy and say, “That woman is very paranoid and negative.” Well, yeah, that day most definitely! See what I mean? You need what is the core or truth of situations on the whole.
  • And be aware of a reader that only reads your Fear. It’s very possible to read you and your emotions, if it’s very strong emotions. Those strong emotions can block out other guidance and create a false reading that has you running around in circles crazy! When I was in crisis, I had a reader tell me someone in my family was going to get pregnant very soon. Dear goodness! Well it wasn’t me, my boat had sailed, if you know what I mean. But my beautiful step-daughter was big time in love with her boyfriend and I was terrified it was her, and it probably dominated my thoughts in that moment.

Remember your discernment and know where the messages are coming from and always check in with your own knowing, your own gut. Have a wonderful weekend.

Haunted Houses and the neighbor across the street

hauntedhouse

I know it’s the day after Halloween, but I still have haunting on my mind.

I’m convinced the house across the street is haunted.

Let’s look at the facts. Since I’ve lived in my home, about three years or more, no one has stayed in that house for more than four months. There is a constant turnover with moving vans coming and going. Sometimes there is a playground set in the front yard, and other times, the swings are dismantled. There is always the landlord coming through cleaning up the yard, throwing out garbage in large quantities into a dumpster in between inhabitants. Something is scaring them away.

Haunted houses fascinate me. I went googling this morning on the subject and found some fun links for you to visit.

The lowdown on Ghost shows

Screen Shot 2013-07-08 at 8.56.09 AM

I’ve completed the research on ghost shows, so you don’t have to.

Ghost Hunters

I used to be a huge Ghost Hunters fan. I collected and bought every season they had, and then life got busy and judging by my bookshelf, I stopped at Season 5. I watched the show the other day, and I still have fun with it, but I’m a little bored. I’m not sure if I overdosed on Ghost Hunters all those years, or it was negative experiences I had actual ghost hunting with a team for a television show (kinda disillusioning). I was pissed when they lost Grant, as the Jason and Grant combo really worked — they would have the most ghost-hunting experiences to report on the show. Some things did grow to be annoying — when a ghost hunter would cry out, Did you see that? Since of course, we did not, we could only guess what they saw or heard vs. real evidence. Overall, though, I enjoy the personalities of the show. They have become old friends from watching back in the day when the show began.

Paranormal State

A team of college students investigate hauntings in this show. The show is now over, as I imagine, most the students have long graduated. I liked the research end of the show but there was such a darkness that pervaded each episode that gave me a headache. Everything was devil this and devil that and then they would bring in Lorraine Warren and it was ALWAYS some demonic entity doing the haunting. A big yuck for me as I prefer to focus on the more light-hearted side. The plus side on this show is I loved when Chip Coffey would come in as medium. That’s when my juices really flowed and I related to his findings or at least to his technique.

Ghost Adventures

A bunch of strapping, good-looking investigators are locked into a haunted location for the night. Being claustrophobic, even the idea of this doesn’t appeal to me. There’s very little intuition going on in the show, so it doesn’t hold my interest as much. They also seem to have many experiences where they are touched or scratched, and I find that just plain nasty. Would you want to be around living people who scratch you for no reason and are abusinve? Much less get stuck in the room with them for hours. It’s like a bad party, or most of 2009 for me.

Psychic Kids

I’ve mentioned this before on this blog that I loved that show. Talking to and validating the experiences of intuitive kids? How fabulous a premise is that! They even EDUCATE the kids on how to handle their psychic ability, which is even better. I think I learned a thing a two for myself. Why don’t they make more of these shows?

Haunted Collector

I watched this show last night about a father/daughter team who investigate haunted objects. It runs like most ghost shows, the same format, but the hauntings originate from some antique or object, rather then a spirit haunting, which leaves the show feeling a little emotionless and detached for my taste. I like a good story regarding a person. The last episode I watched involved a boxer spirit who was attached to a medicine bottle. I found that to be a vague connection. A bottle? That didn’t sit right. I think he was more attached to the boxing ring that was still there on the premises. It’s still an entertaining show, but I can’t connect to things like that.

Girly Ghost Hunters

Sorry, Ladies. I really didn’t like the episode I watched. There was one episode where the ladies are discussing the next case while riding their ghost hunter bus, and they giggle and comment, and it’s just plain awkward. It reads like a bad home movie. I was uncomfortable watching it. At least with some of the other shows, I feel the detectives have experience and vast knowledge on the subject. This feels like a bunch of girls grabbed some cameras one night on a drunken dare. It’s a “no” for me.

I’m guessing most of the shows are scripted in some way, and when they go through the editing process, they aim for the more sensationalized effect over authenticity.  If you can overlook that and just have fun watching, these shows are entertaining and enjoyable. My recommendation would be stick to the more light-hearted ones with the good stories. The darker ones will only leave you with a headache.

Thursday Poll Question: Have you seen a ghost?

Thursday Poll

We are having a lively discussion over at the Talking to Angels and Ghosts class about ghost sightings. For a new, fun thing, Thursdays are fun poll days. Let’s hear from you…

Why can’t I hear my dog or loved one, but you can?

Often, this is the question I get the most with students and other people. I even found an old email I gratefully missed seeing berating me for claiming that I could talk to my departed mother. How do I answer that?

For one thing, yes, I can talk to animals and feel spirits. The spirits more like drop in and out on occasion. I can’t conjure up. It’s more like having someone call you up on the telephone. I’m not delusional, I’ve been relatively grounded, and I’m psychologically sound even though life has really roughed me up a bit, and I’ve concluded that it was that “roughing up” that allowed me to hear or see.

Here’s one of my theories

Many of the friends I have that are truly “psychic,” which is really aware of other dimensions, or simply, what’s beyond THIS, have had in their life some kind of experience that caused them to pop out of their bodies from some kind of trauma. During that popping out they noticed “hey, there’s something else here.” No, they didn’t go into the devil’s world, which at least, I hope not. When I was a kid, I had such chronic pain that it was an easy thing to just pop out and hang out on the ceiling then feel that pain all the time (by the way, animals do this.) I was already very empathic, just like mother, and I think that’s how–the popping out–was why I also able to readily hear guidance.

Some folks need their worlds to fall apart to experience that there’s more then what’s here. GRIEF can open you up completely or…shut you down. That’s one big reason you can’t hear your loved one or your departed dog. There isn’t a thing you did wrong or something wrong with you. What I know from experience is when I am very upset and angry at the world, I can’t access any guidance. I feel cut off and stranded. I think with grief, you’re in a protective mode. You need to be insulated so you can heal. And then later on, you can hear or feel and connect to loved ones.

Some folks have had trauma and hurt early on and have always been shut down. It’s safer that way when the world is an unsafe place. But if you asked them, they will recall little signs that happened in their lives that showed them they were watched over, if they are willing to see it.

Lots of people could hear and see when they were children. But as they grew up and life got hard, they forgotten this.

Some folks are very left-brained and they experience the world solely from the mind, and therefore, won’t hear or see. (They need to rent movies like DRAGONFLY.) That’s not their path to hear.

Don’t Push

When I hear students say this, I always question if they are pushing or trying to hear/feel. That always shuts things down. Then your mind comes in and takes over. They are almost always missing the SUBTLE signs of communication and dismissing it as nothing, but it’s there. They are feeling hugged (those goosebumps out of nowhere), having songs come into their heads out of nowhere, seeing a shadow run across the room or a blink of light. That’s the communication! It doesn’t have to be a full-blown ghost giving a six page message. That’s just television! And always with their animals, they just need validation that they are already picking up a ton of information from their animals. How can they not? They are so connected to them.

I’ve always thought like a scientist. I need proof to believe and I need to experience it. Most folks are like that. So, if they don’t experience it or see it, why would they believe it? And the interesting thing is, when you have lots of experiences and you start to believe, the experiences increase.

No, I’m not special at all because I pick up things from spirits or know what dogs feel and think. I actually curse it sometimes when I have headaches from it and overload all the time, and pick up psychically what I really don’t want to or is helpful to me. I really don’t appreciate when people think I’m nuts. I don’t hear all the time, either, by the way. Sometimes, I stare at my dogs wondering what they want and can’t hear anything at all. Being sensitive can be a really big hindrance in my life, especially in my relationships, but it’s also a gift that can help others (I get to write about it.) And there are many out there who totally relate to this, who often come here.

Just Keep the Gate Open

The big thing is, if you are missing or grieving someone and you can’t feel or hear them, it doesn’t mean they have abandoned you or there’s no after-life, or worse, everyone who can is crazy. Right now, in this moment, you can’t. It’s not forever, and maybe there’s a reason, like I mentioned before. Instead, just leave that door open to possibility. That’s all you need for the world to surprise you. And boy, will it.

Ghost vs. Spirits and Enabling the Stuck

I love watching Ghost Hunter shows. It’s a little fascination of mine, and, I even was able to go on a ghost-hunting exposition, and was even lucky enough to be a part of filming a ghost-hunting show recently. But my perception or opinion has changed possibly from those experiences, and definitely  from watching a low-grade Ghost Hunting show.

My local town, Camp Verde, (very, very rural), has a scaled down version of Walmart called Alco. It’s there I saw a copy of a Ghosthunting collection of shows I had to have.

I couldn’t wait to rip off the plastic from the DVD and dive in. I was disappointed. Sure, there was good footage of ghostly experiences, but it was also very dark in nature that upset me. But what really got me going was one featured show about a haunted abandoned hotel. A ghost hunting crew was led around and introduced by a local woman who conducts tours. She retold a story how the ghosts there flew her across the room one time. She talked about the ghosts as her friends and was their official voice as a medium. She knew their habits and preferences. Almost had an intimate knowledge of each one.

Does this feel right to you?

If I was a soul stuck back in tragedy and another time, wandering around lonely and upset, would I want to be stuck like that? Or, worse, be someone’s entertainment? In many of these shows, they capture spirit voices trying to communicate on tape and then they get all excited over evidence and leave the poor soul stuck there! They’ve opened the door to communication and just left. I can’t imagine having an animal client who trusts me enough to talk to me and tell me how he/she is feeling, and then I just walk away! Talk about abandonment issues.

Earthbounds or ghosts are those who haven’t crossed into the light yet. They’ve pretty much wandered, hung out, not budged. Some are stuck by other ghosts. Some, by guilt. Others, by confusion and trauma. Spirits, like my departed mom or your relatives, have made it to the light/heaven and communicate from that plane or space.  There’s a distinct difference. When we go on ghost-hunting trips, we are usually communicating with ghosts who didn’t cross over.

In my one disastrous ghost-hunting visit with a local ghost group, we communicated with a ghost who was a resident of a hotel. It saddened me that she didn’t move on, partly because she was lonely, but mostly because she liked all the attention from those who stayed at the hotel and even from the ghost-hunting crew. This gave me a new perspective. It was the like the hotel workers were enabling her “stuck-ness,” much like the woman in the ghost hunting video did.

What I thought was funny at the time, was the group asked really strange questions that related way, way back when she first died from an illness. Even though the female ghost was out of body for so long that was no longer relevant to her.

A lot of ghosts that are supposed to haunt places–I think of nearby Jerome–are not even there anymore! They moved on. Maybe even reincarnated. But I guess you can’t sell hotel rooms without ghostly legends, eh?

And why do we need so much “evidence” that ghosts exist? To the sensitive, it’s a no-brainer. We don’t need proof like that. We see, feel and hear it.

I guess we need to approach the whole ghost thing as you would the living. If I were to be totally stuck, still wearing clothes from ten years ago, haven’t progressed at all in my spiritual evolution, I sure would want my friends to get me some help so I could move on in my life. Why not these ghosts? It sure isn’t healthy to be stuck in your old hotel room for hundreds of years reliving your horrible death from illness and starvation. Talk about PTSD!

Next time you encounter a ghost or earthbound, ask him or her, What do you need to move on? And just like with people in body, know when to give up if they aren’t ready to do so. We all know someone who is literally stuck in their own mind merry-go-round.

Visiting Dead Moms

My brother-in-law sent this photo over today. He and my sister went and visited my Mom’s grave in Jersey and he took a photo of the grave marker. Of course, seeing this gave me a huge cry, but I no longer feel deep sadness. I know she’s nearby.

I had an interesting experience the other day regarding Mom. I have a touch-base cell phone. This means my phone likes to dial people on its own or go to odd pages when I throw it down into my purse. It’s a quirky, little thing that I usually like to scream at. I was worrying about a situation with a loved one when I threw down my phone onto the table and left the room. When I came back, I looked down to see that the phone had opened up to the Calendar page to a date: May 5th. I felt shivers run through me. I will never forget that day. It was my Mom’s graduation to spirit. She was letting me know things would be okay.

Losing a mom at any age is a humbling experience. It’s a loss that goes down to the core and you need a great deal of time to heal and readjust. Even if you didn’t get along or you may have had a horrendous mother, it still shocks you and rearranges you. My mom had her faults, but she was a good mom who was very nurturing to me. I’m thinking that’s why she visits a lot; she’s still caring for me.

My mom has been making many spirit appearances especially in the last few years since I went through the Trauma of 2009. I think she knows I still need a Mom. In my meditations, she makes herself known by sending a mind picture of an owl. (She collected owl figurines). She has her own perspective on things, she’s not all-wise, but she still wants to help.

How do I know they are actual visits and not my desires and hopes? Or worse, these visits are the devil playing tricks on me?

For the first question, the answer is “I’m psychic. Duh.”

No, seriously, after years and years of developing my psychic, natural abilities, I can tell what is a spirit visit and what is my mind. With a spirit visit, you actually feel a presence in the room with you. I often get a “spirit hug” or my ear rings. The air shifts too. I will have an emotional reaction that bubbles up from within me. Mom feels less corporal or in a body since she’s been “over there” for quite a long time. And I can’t MAKE these visits occur or force her to give me answers. It doesn’t seem to work that way for me. We have quickie conservations mostly. I think if I was really out of it and in deep meditation I’d have more interactions with her. My mind wouldn’t be so in the way. The dream state has been best for that kind of communication; that’s where we usually hang out together.

Oh, and the second question about the devil, I bring this one up because many folks having psychic visits, go straight into fear from their religious teachings. That’s not helpful and it’s uninformed. My Mom isn’t some waking zombie from the dead visiting me, and if the devil wants to influence and trick me he already met me in the Trauma of 2009. He doesn’t need to come to me as my dead mother.

What is the biggest lesson or gift with my mom visits, is that constant reminder that we don’t lose that connection to whom we love. Love, like energy, doesn’t die. It more like floats. There’s just different dimensions or levels to bounce around in, and when I’m really open or in tuned, I can hear, or feel, or see.  At least, that’s my experience.

What’s yours?

Favorite Ghosty, Spirit Posts

Halloween is fast approaching, and when I think of Halloween I always think of ghosts and spirit visits. Of course! Fun huh? Obviously, spirit communication is a fascination and a passion for me. It may be for you, too. So, here’s my favorite past posts on the subject to enjoy:

Are Mediums part of the devil? I’m on my soapbox again

I have some things in life that get me going. The big one is ignorance. Ignorance is lacking knowledge. What bothers me the most is when someone chooses to stay without knowledge even though it is provided to them.

I’ve seen this before, folks actually believing that if you have mediumship abilities that you are working in kahoots with the devil. Oh, for goodness sake! Are you serious? No, really?

This is an awful belief for the many, many of us who are intuned to the spiritual world. What are you supposed to do, put a lampshade on your head and pretend you don’t feel or see the spirit in the room? That’s like ignoring the elephant in the room.
It’s a  little hard to arrange your furniture.

I watched a cute movie last night about an alien PAUL who gets stranded on earth. There is a funny scene where a woman who is strongly bible-based in her teachings is faced with the alien and she stares right at him and says he doesn’t exist basically because her teachings say he doesn’t.

Since I was six years old, I could sense spirits in the room. It was rather scary because I’d be screaming and my mom would rush into the room and see nothing but I sure could. It wasn’t an ability I embraced or felt support on how to deal with in any way. What a horrible belief, then, to say that I am from the devil or working with the dark because I have this ability! Could we create more fear? That’s a rather conditional acceptance. Much like if you were gay, or divorced, or short, or tall, or whatever…are any of these wrong? If God made us, we are what we are, and God thinks we are just fine as we are and must know about our abilities.

When we do mediumship or talk to spirits, we are not in any way replacing our connection or communication to God. Like we even could if we are a part of God. Sure, you can talk to bad or dark spirits if you aren’t careful, just like you can talk to dark or bad people in your every day life!

You know, anything can be of “the devil.” I can have an ability for anything and can twist it to work for the dark or the bad. It’s my intention or how I use my abilities. If I use my mediumship abilities to hurt people and take advantage of them, yes, that’s not a good thing; that’s hurtful. But it’s an ability to see or feel and it can help give someone help or closure or continued relationship. That’s a miracle. That’s all good. Miracles and good are from the light, not the dark. God is all about miracles.

My bigger question is, what are folks afraid of when they ask this question? What’s really happening? Are they questioning their teachings? Are they afraid of what they may hear or discover? Are they just not ready? Do they need the world or life to fit into a small box so they feel safe? Then we honor where they are and slowly back away.We are all here learning different things with different understandings at different levels.

My concern is more for the beginning and lost natural mediums out there who don’t need to feel like they are ostracized and wrong for who they are. It’s just an ability you have like being able to sing well, or dance. You can just see or feel or hear. You’re evolving and growing. The world has many layers and dimensions and you’re just picking up on that.Your blinders are being taken off.

And next time I pick up on my Mom visiting and floating nearby, I am going to thank God over and over again for this gift he/she gave me so I can have a continued relationship with the woman who meant so much to me.

Facts about Ghosts

Many folks come to my blog with questions about spirits and ghosts. This is an area that is of great interest for me, so I love to pass along what I have experienced or know. Other experts, this may not be your knowing. I can only go by mine. So, here’s what I have learned about ghosts/spirits:

  1. Demons often are yukky people. Every time I watch Paranormal State and they bring Lorraine Warren on, I cringe. She seems like a lovely lady, but not every spirit is a demon. My own interpretation is there are yukky people and there are nice people. Just because you are dead, doesn’t mean you have found enlightenment. You may still be a yukky person. “Demons” many times are these such people who are acting out how they would have acted out in life–they are rude, nasty, trouble-some. Many times the folks who are experiencing bad hauntings were dabbling with a ouija board and called the folks in for visit without realizing that lower vibrations dig that kind of thing. The “demons” can also be thoughtforms that took life. We are that powerful in our creations. And, those that have some forms of mental illness or serious addictions do tend to attract earthbound spirit attachments.
  2. Lower vibrations–when I say lower vibration I mean that not in an arrogant-I’m better than you–definition. We all came to earth school to learn. Some of us are here for the first time and are entering first grade. They may be considered at a lower vibration.  Others, have been here many times and are ready for graduate school. Some of us, not me, have been here enough that they finally “get” it, and don’t need earth school, but came here just to help the rest of us to “get” it.
  3. Ghosts can touch you. This takes a great deal of energy and I have witnessed them moving objects many times. But hurting you? That’s not been my experience, so I can’t really comment on that. I have experienced spirit hugs, and having my hair touched. But you do have boundaries with them as you do anyone. No one is allowed to do that without your permission whether living or not. Just yell no! and state your boundaries. If they don’t listen, get really pissy and call on your Angels to escort the bugger away from you.
  4. Ghosts vs. Spirits. I consider ghosts earth-bound spirits or those who haven’t crossed over yet for whatever reason. They are either lost and confused, or not wanting to let go. Spirits are those who have crossed over but are visiting and helping you. They fall more into the Spirit Guide category.
  5. They “haunt” all the time. I always laugh when I watch the ghost-hunting shows because they find it necessary to close the lights off in the middle of the night. I went to a seance locally not too long ago where they felt the need to do the same thing. I did see some movement, but I experienced more of the fear of the dark than anything. I feel ghosts or spirits around all the time, everywhere. Maybe they come out at night because its quieter and you are sleeping and there is less noise. Our world is so busy all the time, a spirit would have to compete with a great deal to get your attention.
  6. You have to be special and a Medium to talk to spirits and ghosts fallacy. If I was a bad healer and I wanted to sell my readings, I’d say, Yes, of course! Only I can do this and I am special. Now fork over tons of money. I do readings for others so you can get a second opinion/validation, or as an alternative until you learn or access your own abilities. We ALL can do this. You may have probably done this when you were very young. Like playing the piano, some of us are better at it than others, but we just came in more “wired.” When you are having experiences you are tuning into your ability. And those who have no ability at all? They are the folks that are shut down and are probably shut down in many areas. In one of my favorite movies, Field of Dreams, the family can see the spirit baseball players having a game in the backyard. The “shut-down” brother-in-law intent on taking away the land and the house to bank foreclosure sees nothing until a crisis occurs. Isn’t that how many of us re-find our abilities?
