Facts about Ghosts

Many folks come to my blog with questions about spirits and ghosts. This is an area that is of great interest for me, so I love to pass along what I have experienced or know. Other experts, this may not be your knowing. I can only go by mine. So, here’s what I have learned about ghosts/spirits:

  1. Demons often are yukky people. Every time I watch Paranormal State and they bring Lorraine Warren on, I cringe. She seems like a lovely lady, but not every spirit is a demon. My own interpretation is there are yukky people and there are nice people. Just because you are dead, doesn’t mean you have found enlightenment. You may still be a yukky person. “Demons” many times are these such people who are acting out how they would have acted out in life–they are rude, nasty, trouble-some. Many times the folks who are experiencing bad hauntings were dabbling with a ouija board and called the folks in for visit without realizing that lower vibrations dig that kind of thing. The “demons” can also be thoughtforms that took life. We are that powerful in our creations. And, those that have some forms of mental illness or serious addictions do tend to attract earthbound spirit attachments.
  2. Lower vibrations–when I say lower vibration I mean that not in an arrogant-I’m better than you–definition. We all came to earth school to learn. Some of us are here for the first time and are entering first grade. They may be considered at a lower vibration.  Others, have been here many times and are ready for graduate school. Some of us, not me, have been here enough that they finally “get” it, and don’t need earth school, but came here just to help the rest of us to “get” it.
  3. Ghosts can touch you. This takes a great deal of energy and I have witnessed them moving objects many times. But hurting you? That’s not been my experience, so I can’t really comment on that. I have experienced spirit hugs, and having my hair touched. But you do have boundaries with them as you do anyone. No one is allowed to do that without your permission whether living or not. Just yell no! and state your boundaries. If they don’t listen, get really pissy and call on your Angels to escort the bugger away from you.
  4. Ghosts vs. Spirits. I consider ghosts earth-bound spirits or those who haven’t crossed over yet for whatever reason. They are either lost and confused, or not wanting to let go. Spirits are those who have crossed over but are visiting and helping you. They fall more into the Spirit Guide category.
  5. They “haunt” all the time. I always laugh when I watch the ghost-hunting shows because they find it necessary to close the lights off in the middle of the night. I went to a seance locally not too long ago where they felt the need to do the same thing. I did see some movement, but I experienced more of the fear of the dark than anything. I feel ghosts or spirits around all the time, everywhere. Maybe they come out at night because its quieter and you are sleeping and there is less noise. Our world is so busy all the time, a spirit would have to compete with a great deal to get your attention.
  6. You have to be special and a Medium to talk to spirits and ghosts fallacy. If I was a bad healer and I wanted to sell my readings, I’d say, Yes, of course! Only I can do this and I am special. Now fork over tons of money. I do readings for others so you can get a second opinion/validation, or as an alternative until you learn or access your own abilities. We ALL can do this. You may have probably done this when you were very young. Like playing the piano, some of us are better at it than others, but we just came in more “wired.” When you are having experiences you are tuning into your ability. And those who have no ability at all? They are the folks that are shut down and are probably shut down in many areas. In one of my favorite movies, Field of Dreams, the family can see the spirit baseball players having a game in the backyard. The “shut-down” brother-in-law intent on taking away the land and the house to bank foreclosure sees nothing until a crisis occurs. Isn’t that how many of us re-find our abilities?

Books on after death communication part 1

First off, a big, grateful thank you for the current round of students. What a wonderful group of ladies you are. One wrote such a lovely review you can read here. I offer many courses here and would love to have you as a student!

Speaking of students, I am always learning so I can pass along information to my students. Because of this mission, I had a lovely visit to Sedona’s Public libary recently. (They have THE best book sale every year, incidently.)

I’ve started my research on the new books, or books I missed, on after death communication and mediumship, one of my passions.

Here’s my list:

Rosemary Altea’s  A Matter of Life and Death (I haven’t seen a book by her in awhile. This one promises stories of helping others heal and grieve.

Gary Leon Hill’s People Who Don’t Know They’re Dead. Just dig the title. About spirit attachments. This one looks juicy.

Dan Gordon’s Postcards from Heaven. Personal story about after death communication. I’ve never seen this book before. Will see…

Mary Ann Winkowski’s When Ghosts Speak. I love the tv show Ghost Whisperer. Not happy it got cancelled. I was curious about the psychic it is based on, so I was led to this book.

(Great segue. This would be a good time to mention my Mediumship readings and Animal Mediumship online class.)

In another future post, I will give my reviews and recommendations. I want to see if these books add up to what I’ve experienced and have learned. If you’ve read one of these, feel free to comment with your review.

Watch what you watch

After a very cool art show that I was a part of, I came home exhausted, and instead of relaxing and unloading, I did the opposite of self-care. I watched Paranormal State.

Ordinarily, I like that show and it’s good entertainment. But, I was pretty open and excited from the effects of the day that included leftover nerves, and being exposed to a lot of people’s energies. My best defense should have been to relax and clear out. But, no, being an excitement-seeking sensitive, I grabbed for more stimulation.

As I mentioned, I like that show. I love when Chip Coffey comes in and gives his mediumship hits. I love how the gang comes in to investigates and help the family in need. What I’m not thrilled about is when Lorraine Warren comes in and labels every haunting a demon. I’d love to label every bad feeling or impulse I’ve ever had as a demon. Then I could simply exorcise myself. How cool would that be? Most of the shows I watched in the series were not demons–in my opinion–but people’s well-developed fears that become thought-forms, or in the case I watched, someone’s mental illness. There’s also a great deal of creating fear. Many hauntings are just people–dead people–behaving badly, who need serious boundaries.

I think years ago, people were burning witches for psychic ability, and casting out demons from folks who had mental illness. Haven’t we evolved a little more than that? Than our own fears? I guess as a teacher, my biggest frustration is lack of educated people. How quick many are to go into ignorance than find wisdom.

Watching that show and being an open empath, stirred up my own fears, and gave me nightmares. Much of the fear was from the folks I watching on tv!

There were lots of lessons learned there. A reminder as an empath I need to give myself special self care. With gifts come taking care of those gifts. I need to be careful about what I take in and that includes what shows I watch. Watching someone else’s fear means I will be picking up on fear. Isn’t it better choice to surround myself with wisdom instead?

Signs You’ve Been Visited By a Ghost

In honor of Halloween, I share the signs I’ve noticed when a ghost or spirit is visiting, in case this holiday you may have a visit of your own.

  1. Your smoke detector goes off. The other day I was talking out loud to my departed mom hoping for a response. Next thing that happened was my smoke detector started to beep and then wheeze. Ordinarily I would think this was a symptom of a dying battery, but my psychic spot on my head ached at the same time. Our loved ones can manipulate things in the environment especially electrical or mechanical devices. Years ago, my Mom visited and a music box she had given my husband–a cute fire engine whose ladder would go up and down–began playing with no assistance. Oh, and the detector never made another sound after that.
  2. Your head hurts. As I previously mentioned, if you are psychically in-tuned, you may have a part of your body that announces the presence of a ghost or other-world-ly. Some folks get chills, others stomach flip-flops, my head will ache. My head will ache a lot if a spirit really wants my attention. I have a different head ache if a spirit is around that is negative. This is a good warning for me. The ache will also be present with the stomach flip-flop.
  3. The dog acts weird. There’s been some nights where this place has been Grand Central Station with ghost visits. Emma Lou seems to flow with whatever is occurring, but Sarah, my little sensitive, will pace the hallways, agitated.
  4. Intrusive, recurring thoughts. This could be your own OCD, or you have an intruder bothering you. If the thoughts seems foreign to you or separate, or even a negative running commentary, simply ask your new friend to take a walk. Sometimes, I have a need for cigarette. In the empath world, I am either picking up on my bff Wendy, or it’s one of my smoker departed loved ones. (I must mention, I don’t smoke at all).
  5. Seeing shadows. Not too long ago in this blog, I wrote about my aunt visiting. This was the second time I witnessed a shadow in front of me. The first was seen in a local seance when a healing ghost stood in front of me and blocked out the candle behind her.
  6. You hear them. If you are clairaudient (clear hearing), you may hear with your inner ear the ghost’s voice. (see #4). This is a great way to ask the spirit what message he/she has for you or to find out who is visiting and why.

Ghosts are just people in their spirit suits

If you have a spirit visiting, if it feels like friend or foe, remember, you are in charge. Ghosts are just people in their spirit suits. You wouldn’t let anyone barge through your front door. Create boundaries. Let them know what is okay or not okay. When my aunt visited and scared the socks off of me, I made it very clear that visits were nice, but not hovering over my bed at night. Seriously creepy.

In an amateur ghost investigation that I took part of, one of the investigators was psychically very open. Spirits love this. The ghost was holding her arm and not letting go. This wasn’t some evil entity trying to harm her, but someone very anxious to be known. BUT, this was scaring her and not very nice social behavior. In a situation like that, it’s perfectly necessary and acceptable to tell the ghost to back off and that it was not okay to do that. If some creepy guy wanted my attention at a party and grabbed my arm, you know I’d make my objection known.

Happy ghost visits.

What happened to your header? Or a story about ruby slippers and marketing

The Lesson of the Ruby Slippers

If you are regular reader to Ronni’s Psychic Room, you may have noticed many changes in the last few months to my site. No, your eyes aren’t going loopy, you are simply experiencing the effects of a right-brain person trying to do left-brain marketing. (Noticable in the many changes to my blog header).

I’ve been trying to define myself and what I do for marketing purposes, but the more I tried to, the farther I got away from myself and home. The experience has been ultimately, more of the lesson of the ruby slippers. Remember dear Dorothy on a quest?

In my attempts to define and brand myself, for months I labeled myself one who helps the sensitive. Hmmm. I do! I love to teach tools on what has helped me as an empath to survive. But then, I did a few animal communication readings. Need to add that now. Then I did a few mediumship readings. Now what? Enter a marketing coach who said I am more of a psychic communication teacher. But I really like to write about spiritual lessons I’ve learned! More boxes around me. I’ve never liked boxes and I felt more and more limited. Afterall, what I do encompasses much more than that title and obviously, I did different kinds of psychic readings and I love to write about what I’ve learned.

When I had my Fairy Online School only, I was the fairy girl. Folks assumed I only talked to fairies. Another box. No, talking to fairies was PART of what I do as a teacher and an intuitive.

The more I went by marketing models, the more confused I got, and more boxed in I felt. I had to fit into a niche, right? Squeeze into a tight box. Conform to where I was pulled to. It got to the point where someone would ask me what I do and I just mumbled to myself! Now that’s bad marketing.

Then there’s the art and writing thing. So, I’m an artist too, but I thought, when I create my art with words, that’s usually what I’ve learned as an intuitive that I want to share through my art.

The fog finally cleared the other day with lots of help from invisible and visible friends. I found myself saying out loud what and who I am: I’m essentially a teacher. I love teaching what I’ve learned from my work as an intuitive and working with my spiritual companions and animals, whether it was the extensive work I did with the Fairies on healing with Nature, talking to my Guides/Angels about what would help me as an empath, or having more insight on my childhood from my departed Mom, or learning from Emma Lou, my basset hound, teaching me about joy. And, I like to teach others how to do this too. All this I do through writing an online lesson, an article or blog post, giving a workshop, making a Comfort Card, or helping someone one-on-one in a reading.

Marketing doesn’t have to be difficult. It’s really simple. No molding. No trying to be for the market. I had my ruby slippers on all along and had the answer, and therefore, could find my way back home. I just had to be me and find that common thread of what it is I offer and love to do.

So, if you want to learn how to communicate to your spiritual world or need help doing so, or want to learn from what I’ve experienced that might help you or your animals, you’ve come to the right place. Welcome to my tribe.

And if you are a holistic healer or an intuitive offering services, or someone who simply does several things, what is your common thread throughout all that you love to do? That’s your definition or ruby slippers–the way back to you.

Astral meeting places – animal mediumship

A Regular Meeting Place

On the Other Side, we all have an astral* home for our spirits/souls to hang out in. Isn’t that the coolest idea? My grandmother, who passed a few years ago, lived most of her life in a garden apartment. I was not surprised when I visited her in a dream and she lived in a…you guessed it, a garden apartment. I found myself regularly visiting her in meditations and in the dream state.

You can create a regular meeting place for your own animals or to visit friends’ animals in your meditation state, or you can imagine and visualize one before you go to sleep. When we sleep, we are crossing dimensions and joining our dream bodies and souls.

– Here’s a little excerpt from the Animal Mediumship online class. Want to learn how to talk to animals that have crossed over? To sign up go here.

A Spirit in the House

Last night a dead relative visited me.

The irony of this visit was I was just watching Paranormal State. I think I got spirit hugged while watching. My legs felt cold and tingling and I felt a presence in the room. I dismissed this as I was super-tired and watching a spooky show. But what happened later, I couldn’t dismiss.

I crawled into bed with Emma Lou by my side, deep under the blankets. Sarah was still sleeping in the other room. I couldn’t shake the feeling that someone was in the room.

As soon as I closed the lights, I saw my very first shadow person. I have to admit it was seriously creepy. The clock radio diagonal to me that usually blares its light at me all night long, disappeared when the shadow went in front of it. This dark thing hovered over me on the bed.

I jumped upright and as calm as can be turned the lights on. Yeah right. I actually screamed out, “What the f*ck!”

Gathering my wits I remembered all my psychic training and kindly let the spirit know that was a big no-no hovering over me while I slept.

So I then did what every medium should do, I tuned in.

The communication was so clear telepathically, it was unmistakable.

ME: Why are you here? (Tune in: spirit feels very female.)

SPIRIT: To check on you after everything you have been through.

ME: Who are you?

SPIRIT: Aunt.

ME: Why did you scare me like that?

SPIRIT: I thought you liked that kind of thing…the show you were watching.

It was obviously an aunt who has a sense of humor.

ME: Please visit when I am awake and not so freaked out.

As I fell back to sleep, I had a very clear vision sent to me. This spirit was very good at communicating. I saw myself as a child lying in bed with a ton of stuffed animals surrounding me. The spirit was remarking how now I sleep with dogs surrounding me and how some things never change. She obviously knew me well as a child. Still not sure why she didn’t share her name.

Before drifting into sleep, I called in Archangel Michael to make sure I didn’t have any other unannounced guests.

I have to admit, it was kinda cool, especially the part communicating which was so clear. The scary part, not so much.

I’m certified! In mediumship, that is

Took a fabulous workshop this weekend with Charles Virtue and Tina Daly, and I am now certified as a medium.

My big draw in taking the class was to help myself and my students. So many of us who are sensitive also have the ability to detect and communicate with spirits in the room. Having a way to “shut it off” and create boundaries is a necessary skill. So many of us have this ability, it is amazing that we aren’t taught as children how to use it alongside tying your shoes and learning the alphabet.

Although for years I communicated with animals that have passed in my practice, I hadn’t realized that I was constantly talking to my dead people relatives. This became apparent the day of the workshop. There were so many people in my bathroom talking to me and bothering me, apparently excited about the class and being heard.  When there are many spirits around like that, I often feel totally wired, which feels like nervous, crazy energy. In the workshop we learned a way to create some serious boundaries and that night was one of the first I felt quiet in my head and alone with just my thoughts and feelings.

I will keep you posted if I do go in the direction of readings at this time. In the meantime, I am offering Animal Mediumship online class that starts in August now with some new added tools. Details here.

Animal Reincarnation & Changing Perceptions

Can animals come back as other animals? Well, of course. As always, are perceptions change with our experiences.

Just watched a horrible movie last night, The Fourth Kind. It’s about the bad aliens abducting people. Many of the people in the movie did not believe in aliens or UFOs until they experienced first hand their presence. Bang, zoom, zip, their perception changes of what is possible in the universe.

That’s been my experience as an animal communicator. From day one in my practice, my precious perceptions and beliefs were thrown out the window on everything from animal behavior to reincarnation.

When Emma Lou made her appearance after leaving as Lucy, my belief in reincarnation was reinforced. I’ve talked to countless clients with similar experiences they can’t explain. So when my tortoise went through the dog door the other day, I wondered, who is this guy really? I immediately got the thought he was a dog I knew coming back and he was making that clear. I thought it was coincidence for just Speedy having fun when he went out the door, but when I scolded him, picked him up and put him in the other room, and he still made his way to that door, I knew he was communicating to me.

How cool is that Speedy is a former dog? I could look at it in two ways–either he is here because he loved me so much and wants more, or he’s a teacher and I’m still not “getting it.” I think the first idea will suffice.

Moms and talking to dead people

Historically this is a tough week for me. My mom crossed over on May 5th fourteen years. It’s a day that comes around with a thud whether I acknowledge it or not. To add insult to injury (boy, I love that expression), dealing with our special needs daughter, we now have frequent family therapy sessions. And in yesterday’s session, it came up that since I am not my daughter’s biological mom, I am not her “real” mom. It was a little insensitive oops-wording from our therapist. Ouch! With Mother’s Day approaching, all these mom injuries are hitting the fan.

Last night, my head ached. This is a sure sign that someone on the other side is trying to communicate. I saw lots of owls–my mom’s favorite creature, before she showed me a weird vision. It my childhood home. We had one fancy room that was the guest living room. Technically, it was highly impractical for a home with kids and a shedding dog. The couch was white with soft fur that you wanted to touch but couldn’t. In this room, there were fancy artifacts, expensive paintings and a glass coffee table. We were not allowed to hang out here, much less sit on the couch. (Although our beagle was known on occasion to sit there when no one was home.) It was the guest living room, after all, for entertaining, but my parents never entertained in it. Ironically then, the room sat like a museum. Out of all visions my Mom could send at this time was a clear picture of the white couch.

How did this vision apply to my mothering or grieving issues?  When I told my pal Wendy this story she blurted out, “Don’t save the best for other people!” This of course, would follow my other posts here of leaving myself last often.

How much have we learned from our Moms about giving to ourselves vs. giving to others? Were there false messages along the way? Was that special couch that I couldn’t touch a symbol that I couldn’t have the special things and treatment? That was for everyone else? Was my daughter now that couch? I could see it, take care of her for the past five years, be mom, but the role of mom was reserved and belonged to others? How long was I taught this odd withholding?

The miraculous part of all of this is Mom, fourteen years later, must have done some soul-searching on the other side to have learned this lesson now, and is now anxious to impart this wisdom to her daughter as she must painfully watch as she repeats her past mistakes.
