Ghost vs. Spirits and Enabling the Stuck

I love watching Ghost Hunter shows. It’s a little fascination of mine, and, I even was able to go on a ghost-hunting exposition, and was even lucky enough to be a part of filming a ghost-hunting show recently. But my perception or opinion has changed possibly from those experiences, and definitely  from watching a low-grade Ghost Hunting show.

My local town, Camp Verde, (very, very rural), has a scaled down version of Walmart called Alco. It’s there I saw a copy of a Ghosthunting collection of shows I had to have.

I couldn’t wait to rip off the plastic from the DVD and dive in. I was disappointed. Sure, there was good footage of ghostly experiences, but it was also very dark in nature that upset me. But what really got me going was one featured show about a haunted abandoned hotel. A ghost hunting crew was led around and introduced by a local woman who conducts tours. She retold a story how the ghosts there flew her across the room one time. She talked about the ghosts as her friends and was their official voice as a medium. She knew their habits and preferences. Almost had an intimate knowledge of each one.

Does this feel right to you?

If I was a soul stuck back in tragedy and another time, wandering around lonely and upset, would I want to be stuck like that? Or, worse, be someone’s entertainment? In many of these shows, they capture spirit voices trying to communicate on tape and then they get all excited over evidence and leave the poor soul stuck there! They’ve opened the door to communication and just left. I can’t imagine having an animal client who trusts me enough to talk to me and tell me how he/she is feeling, and then I just walk away! Talk about abandonment issues.

Earthbounds or ghosts are those who haven’t crossed into the light yet. They’ve pretty much wandered, hung out, not budged. Some are stuck by other ghosts. Some, by guilt. Others, by confusion and trauma. Spirits, like my departed mom or your relatives, have made it to the light/heaven and communicate from that plane or space.  There’s a distinct difference. When we go on ghost-hunting trips, we are usually communicating with ghosts who didn’t cross over.

In my one disastrous ghost-hunting visit with a local ghost group, we communicated with a ghost who was a resident of a hotel. It saddened me that she didn’t move on, partly because she was lonely, but mostly because she liked all the attention from those who stayed at the hotel and even from the ghost-hunting crew. This gave me a new perspective. It was the like the hotel workers were enabling her “stuck-ness,” much like the woman in the ghost hunting video did.

What I thought was funny at the time, was the group asked really strange questions that related way, way back when she first died from an illness. Even though the female ghost was out of body for so long that was no longer relevant to her.

A lot of ghosts that are supposed to haunt places–I think of nearby Jerome–are not even there anymore! They moved on. Maybe even reincarnated. But I guess you can’t sell hotel rooms without ghostly legends, eh?

And why do we need so much “evidence” that ghosts exist? To the sensitive, it’s a no-brainer. We don’t need proof like that. We see, feel and hear it.

I guess we need to approach the whole ghost thing as you would the living. If I were to be totally stuck, still wearing clothes from ten years ago, haven’t progressed at all in my spiritual evolution, I sure would want my friends to get me some help so I could move on in my life. Why not these ghosts? It sure isn’t healthy to be stuck in your old hotel room for hundreds of years reliving your horrible death from illness and starvation. Talk about PTSD!

Next time you encounter a ghost or earthbound, ask him or her, What do you need to move on? And just like with people in body, know when to give up if they aren’t ready to do so. We all know someone who is literally stuck in their own mind merry-go-round.

Signs You’ve Been Visited By a Ghost

In honor of Halloween, I share the signs I’ve noticed when a ghost or spirit is visiting, in case this holiday you may have a visit of your own.

  1. Your smoke detector goes off. The other day I was talking out loud to my departed mom hoping for a response. Next thing that happened was my smoke detector started to beep and then wheeze. Ordinarily I would think this was a symptom of a dying battery, but my psychic spot on my head ached at the same time. Our loved ones can manipulate things in the environment especially electrical or mechanical devices. Years ago, my Mom visited and a music box she had given my husband–a cute fire engine whose ladder would go up and down–began playing with no assistance. Oh, and the detector never made another sound after that.
  2. Your head hurts. As I previously mentioned, if you are psychically in-tuned, you may have a part of your body that announces the presence of a ghost or other-world-ly. Some folks get chills, others stomach flip-flops, my head will ache. My head will ache a lot if a spirit really wants my attention. I have a different head ache if a spirit is around that is negative. This is a good warning for me. The ache will also be present with the stomach flip-flop.
  3. The dog acts weird. There’s been some nights where this place has been Grand Central Station with ghost visits. Emma Lou seems to flow with whatever is occurring, but Sarah, my little sensitive, will pace the hallways, agitated.
  4. Intrusive, recurring thoughts. This could be your own OCD, or you have an intruder bothering you. If the thoughts seems foreign to you or separate, or even a negative running commentary, simply ask your new friend to take a walk. Sometimes, I have a need for cigarette. In the empath world, I am either picking up on my bff Wendy, or it’s one of my smoker departed loved ones. (I must mention, I don’t smoke at all).
  5. Seeing shadows. Not too long ago in this blog, I wrote about my aunt visiting. This was the second time I witnessed a shadow in front of me. The first was seen in a local seance when a healing ghost stood in front of me and blocked out the candle behind her.
  6. You hear them. If you are clairaudient (clear hearing), you may hear with your inner ear the ghost’s voice. (see #4). This is a great way to ask the spirit what message he/she has for you or to find out who is visiting and why.

Ghosts are just people in their spirit suits

If you have a spirit visiting, if it feels like friend or foe, remember, you are in charge. Ghosts are just people in their spirit suits. You wouldn’t let anyone barge through your front door. Create boundaries. Let them know what is okay or not okay. When my aunt visited and scared the socks off of me, I made it very clear that visits were nice, but not hovering over my bed at night. Seriously creepy.

In an amateur ghost investigation that I took part of, one of the investigators was psychically very open. Spirits love this. The ghost was holding her arm and not letting go. This wasn’t some evil entity trying to harm her, but someone very anxious to be known. BUT, this was scaring her and not very nice social behavior. In a situation like that, it’s perfectly necessary and acceptable to tell the ghost to back off and that it was not okay to do that. If some creepy guy wanted my attention at a party and grabbed my arm, you know I’d make my objection known.

Happy ghost visits.

Science vs. Psychic

I have this analytical part of me. I love to take apart a puzzle and put it back together again in my mind. Usually I can see what the missing piece is in a situation, and have an idea how to fix it. I need to see it or experience it to believe. This is the science part of me. I think also, it may be a Capricorn trait. We love the structures and rebuilding things.

The other part of me is the sensitive/psychic part. I’m a walking barometer of what is happening around me. I pick up a ton of information, not all of which is helpful to me. This part is very emotional and feeling-oriented.  It involves believing the impossible sometimes.  I just know what I know. It seriously pisses off the other part.

I am realizing that many of my experiences in life have had the purpose of finding balance for my two sides. When Foxy the wonderdog was very ill (her story is in this blog), I was furious at the veterinarians for not hearing any of the psychic information I was getting of what Foxy needed. They didn’t hear me when I got info that might have been illogical, but true. She sure looked like she was dying at that time, but everything I “heard” was that she would be just fine.

I’ve had many, many clients that had their animals misdiagnosed by veterinarians because things appeared one way, but were another,or they even refused to see the obvious or to look closer, and psychically I picked up information that saved those animals’ lives. There’s that balance again.

And yet, I’ve met healers who thought their beliefs and spiritual healing would save and heal their illnesses when they ignored medical science that was truly needed at the time. It’s like trying to treat schizophrenia or bipolar disease with only a past life regression. Or diabetes with Reiki healing alone. Without insulin, that body support, how can you survive?

When I wrote the Fairy School, I went into the experience as more of a scientist exploring hands-on how I felt making and working with flower essences and Nature. I read all I could, researched and learned the science, and then I blended my psychic impressions and learnings. I was bit in the butt several times when I went too much in one direction, not researching proper information on the how-to’s of making essences, more noticably, making essences from poisonous plants.

I am convinced that most veterinary schools need to offer classes in animal communication. Most psychic training needs to includes a psychology foundation. There needs to be that balance to be fully prepared and effectual. Without one or the other, it’s just missing pieces in the full puzzle.

Guilty Pleasures for supernatural lovers

I’ve been having fun lately treating myself to silly rewards. I am noticing a huge difference when I treat myself this way– a new balance perhaps, away from my over-responsible, sensible self. Here’s a few things I’ve loved and found:

from Comic FusionWe recently finished watching Angel: Season 5 on DVD and were saddened, maybe even a bit mental, about the season ending. (For reasons that are odd, I related to Ilyria). How exciting the series continues in comic book form! How much fun it was to go to the comic book store and scoop up a bunch of the Angel: After the Fall series. I felt like a little kid again.

Most Haunted:

A british series investigating haunts. This series still has to compete with Ghosthunters, but I am enjoying it. It’s a bit over the top and staged in some ways, but hey, it is ghosthunting and I just love the resident medium with the fav accent although he seems a bit fake most the time to me. If I take it in more like fiction, then it’s a fun ride.
