Watch what you watch

After a very cool art show that I was a part of, I came home exhausted, and instead of relaxing and unloading, I did the opposite of self-care. I watched Paranormal State.

Ordinarily, I like that show and it’s good entertainment. But, I was pretty open and excited from the effects of the day that included leftover nerves, and being exposed to a lot of people’s energies. My best defense should have been to relax and clear out. But, no, being an excitement-seeking sensitive, I grabbed for more stimulation.

As I mentioned, I like that show. I love when Chip Coffey comes in and gives his mediumship hits. I love how the gang comes in to investigates and help the family in need. What I’m not thrilled about is when Lorraine Warren comes in and labels every haunting a demon. I’d love to label every bad feeling or impulse I’ve ever had as a demon. Then I could simply exorcise myself. How cool would that be? Most of the shows I watched in the series were not demons–in my opinion–but people’s well-developed fears that become thought-forms, or in the case I watched, someone’s mental illness. There’s also a great deal of creating fear. Many hauntings are just people–dead people–behaving badly, who need serious boundaries.

I think years ago, people were burning witches for psychic ability, and casting out demons from folks who had mental illness. Haven’t we evolved a little more than that? Than our own fears? I guess as a teacher, my biggest frustration is lack of educated people. How quick many are to go into ignorance than find wisdom.

Watching that show and being an open empath, stirred up my own fears, and gave me nightmares. Much of the fear was from the folks I watching on tv!

There were lots of lessons learned there. A reminder as an empath I need to give myself special self care. With gifts come taking care of those gifts. I need to be careful about what I take in and that includes what shows I watch. Watching someone else’s fear means I will be picking up on fear. Isn’t it better choice to surround myself with wisdom instead?

Signs You’ve Been Visited By a Ghost

In honor of Halloween, I share the signs I’ve noticed when a ghost or spirit is visiting, in case this holiday you may have a visit of your own.

  1. Your smoke detector goes off. The other day I was talking out loud to my departed mom hoping for a response. Next thing that happened was my smoke detector started to beep and then wheeze. Ordinarily I would think this was a symptom of a dying battery, but my psychic spot on my head ached at the same time. Our loved ones can manipulate things in the environment especially electrical or mechanical devices. Years ago, my Mom visited and a music box she had given my husband–a cute fire engine whose ladder would go up and down–began playing with no assistance. Oh, and the detector never made another sound after that.
  2. Your head hurts. As I previously mentioned, if you are psychically in-tuned, you may have a part of your body that announces the presence of a ghost or other-world-ly. Some folks get chills, others stomach flip-flops, my head will ache. My head will ache a lot if a spirit really wants my attention. I have a different head ache if a spirit is around that is negative. This is a good warning for me. The ache will also be present with the stomach flip-flop.
  3. The dog acts weird. There’s been some nights where this place has been Grand Central Station with ghost visits. Emma Lou seems to flow with whatever is occurring, but Sarah, my little sensitive, will pace the hallways, agitated.
  4. Intrusive, recurring thoughts. This could be your own OCD, or you have an intruder bothering you. If the thoughts seems foreign to you or separate, or even a negative running commentary, simply ask your new friend to take a walk. Sometimes, I have a need for cigarette. In the empath world, I am either picking up on my bff Wendy, or it’s one of my smoker departed loved ones. (I must mention, I don’t smoke at all).
  5. Seeing shadows. Not too long ago in this blog, I wrote about my aunt visiting. This was the second time I witnessed a shadow in front of me. The first was seen in a local seance when a healing ghost stood in front of me and blocked out the candle behind her.
  6. You hear them. If you are clairaudient (clear hearing), you may hear with your inner ear the ghost’s voice. (see #4). This is a great way to ask the spirit what message he/she has for you or to find out who is visiting and why.

Ghosts are just people in their spirit suits

If you have a spirit visiting, if it feels like friend or foe, remember, you are in charge. Ghosts are just people in their spirit suits. You wouldn’t let anyone barge through your front door. Create boundaries. Let them know what is okay or not okay. When my aunt visited and scared the socks off of me, I made it very clear that visits were nice, but not hovering over my bed at night. Seriously creepy.

In an amateur ghost investigation that I took part of, one of the investigators was psychically very open. Spirits love this. The ghost was holding her arm and not letting go. This wasn’t some evil entity trying to harm her, but someone very anxious to be known. BUT, this was scaring her and not very nice social behavior. In a situation like that, it’s perfectly necessary and acceptable to tell the ghost to back off and that it was not okay to do that. If some creepy guy wanted my attention at a party and grabbed my arm, you know I’d make my objection known.

Happy ghost visits.

Mental Illness vs. psychic ability

Do you know the difference?

I felt this piece of info was important to share when it comes to psychic ability.

After parenting an adopted child for five years who had tons of both, I slowly learned what was the difference, and that mental illness did not look how I thought it would. I always thought illness would be very obvious–a bit like what we see on television–the bag lady or the man in the white strait jacket. What we thought was charming quirkiness in “Jennifer” early on, was clear-cut signs of mental illness that everyone poo-poo’ed away (many for their own agendas). Once adolescence kicked in, we had full-blown “lots of things”. And honey, that was not ADHD.

There is hearing voices of Guides/Angels or spirits in the room, and then there is hearing voices of your other personalities, split off parts, or out-and-out schizophrenia. A good indicator these are not Guides? The voices aren’t helpful. These voices may even try to get a rise out of you to get you upset (this could even be earthbound spirits. They like to do that).  Guides/Angels are always loving and when you hear their guidance you feel a sense of rightness and an inner knowing. They are much like a good psychic reading. You don’t have a reading and hear “you are going to die!”  The psychic will tell you that you need to be more careful when you drive. Guides/Angels will never say nasty things about other people or tell you to hurt them in any way. Their drive is to help you have understanding and compassion for others. (The exception is a departed relative visiting who might give advice. Usually, you can identify the voice and how they always acted when they were alive.)

“Jennifer” would talk to voices in her room often and claim they were Guides, but I saw and felt nothing, except, I would have the beginning of a migraine when I entered. (Keep in mind though, earthbounds are attracted to high energy emotional states. I think she did have a few entities attached on top of everything else. Henceforth, my headaches).

Folks with personality disorders are really hard to peg as mentally ill. That’s the tough part. Borderlines (called RAD when they are young) will take your life onto a rollercoaster with one moment idolizing you when you do what they want, and the next despising you for not complying. They are also masters of triangulation pitting one person against another just for the drama of it, because chaos feels safe. On the surface, they are as charming as can be, and always who they think you want them to be. But without treatment or help, their lives are a continuous, bad amusement park ride and you don’t need to join them, or risk developing your own mental illnesses.

When I first came to the Sedona area, one of the first things I did was readings at a healing fair. My first customer was a schizophrenic who wanted to know about the implants attached to his head controlled by the government. I did give him the benefit of the doubt after watching years of X-files, but his wife later confirmed he had mental illness. There was also a girl who claimed she was a reincarnated Jesus (lots of those). What scares me is many folks like this need medication or psychological help and not a psychic reading. Sedona is notorious for attracting all kinds of people who want healing. I got an instant education what to look out for.

If you do hear voices that are not helpful, find your moods seriously erratic, go get some help.* Get educated. Our bodies and minds are so complicated. Sometimes it’s just a hormone imbalance! We all have the ability to go a little off kilter in the most stressful times. (I’ve got a bit of OCD inherited from my grandmother. Thanks Nanny!)

And if you have more of a psychic intruder bothering you? Being a sensitive/psychic you could open some doors you don’t need to open to outside unhelpful energies attracted to your bright light. Learn clearing exercises and find someone who specializes in escorting them out.  I always call in Archangel Michael for the small jobs.

*Thanks to Anna who commented so I can clarify. Hearing negative voices telling you to hurt people or yourself  (not a good thing), WITH other signs, such as, very disordered, illogical  or paranoid thinking, delusions, dissociation, cutting, emotional instability, etc. can definitely be a sign of mental illness. Many of us who are mediums, can pick up entities that are negative and can affect us. See earthbound spirits above.

Crazy life and Foxy visit

I haven’t blogged. Our lives are crazy at the moment right now. We are moving again in a month–our lease is up and we would prefer more than one bathroom. 🙂 Our daughter Jessica, who we had adopted five years ago, is having major troubles with her old trauma coming up and I can’t even begin to discuss that here. So, sometimes, when life is doing a big clearing and healing, the picture doesn’t always look very good.

On the one very positive note, our Foxy’s spirit, as she had promised before she crossed, has been very active in helping us, including visiting one of my best friends to deliver some messages. Wendy called me and said, “What a night. Foxy just visited with a bunch of messages.” To add to the validation, her son woke from a dead sleep and muttered, “I didn’t sleep well last night. The dog kept talking to me.”

Last night I had the funniest dream mixed in with a visit. Foxy burst into the room riding a bicycle! I watched amazed her tackling this bike. It was a bit of a joke because when Foxy was alive, she was constantly pushing herself to learn and try things, and was determined to always heal everything that didn’t work in her body. I asked her how it was possible she was still here. And she said, she regenerated. She then turned into Demi Moore! She told me in her Foxy voice, “I wanted to continue being your teacher, Dear.” I told her I had plenty of questions, so we sat and talked. I woke with the best feeling, awashed in Foxy’s energy!

Ghosthunting

I’m happy to say that Ghosthunters Series 3 Part Two is now in stores and we’ve been watching it. It’s my guilty pleasure! I’ve been learning that my other “job” at night has been helping cross over souls! That garden I see often is where souls go after leaving their bodies. Perhaps that was my own soul telling me about this when my absolute passion has been watching everything ghost-related–The Ghostwhisperer show, Ghosthunters, etc.–reading in the past anything Hans Holzer wrote & other ghost story authors, and even specializing for a long time in after-death animal communication when I was a full-blown practicing animal communicator (I focus on teaching mainly now). It would also explain so much death and transition in my life and the easy ability to journey to other realms and talk and see spirits. Lately, this ability has evolved further and I am anxious to see where it is heading and its purpose to heal.
