Mental Illness vs. psychic ability

Do you know the difference?

I felt this piece of info was important to share when it comes to psychic ability.

After parenting an adopted child for five years who had tons of both, I slowly learned what was the difference, and that mental illness did not look how I thought it would. I always thought illness would be very obvious–a bit like what we see on television–the bag lady or the man in the white strait jacket. What we thought was charming quirkiness in “Jennifer” early on, was clear-cut signs of mental illness that everyone poo-poo’ed away (many for their own agendas). Once adolescence kicked in, we had full-blown “lots of things”. And honey, that was not ADHD.

There is hearing voices of Guides/Angels or spirits in the room, and then there is hearing voices of your other personalities, split off parts, or out-and-out schizophrenia. A good indicator these are not Guides? The voices aren’t helpful. These voices may even try to get a rise out of you to get you upset (this could even be earthbound spirits. They like to do that).  Guides/Angels are always loving and when you hear their guidance you feel a sense of rightness and an inner knowing. They are much like a good psychic reading. You don’t have a reading and hear “you are going to die!”  The psychic will tell you that you need to be more careful when you drive. Guides/Angels will never say nasty things about other people or tell you to hurt them in any way. Their drive is to help you have understanding and compassion for others. (The exception is a departed relative visiting who might give advice. Usually, you can identify the voice and how they always acted when they were alive.)

“Jennifer” would talk to voices in her room often and claim they were Guides, but I saw and felt nothing, except, I would have the beginning of a migraine when I entered. (Keep in mind though, earthbounds are attracted to high energy emotional states. I think she did have a few entities attached on top of everything else. Henceforth, my headaches).

Folks with personality disorders are really hard to peg as mentally ill. That’s the tough part. Borderlines (called RAD when they are young) will take your life onto a rollercoaster with one moment idolizing you when you do what they want, and the next despising you for not complying. They are also masters of triangulation pitting one person against another just for the drama of it, because chaos feels safe. On the surface, they are as charming as can be, and always who they think you want them to be. But without treatment or help, their lives are a continuous, bad amusement park ride and you don’t need to join them, or risk developing your own mental illnesses.

When I first came to the Sedona area, one of the first things I did was readings at a healing fair. My first customer was a schizophrenic who wanted to know about the implants attached to his head controlled by the government. I did give him the benefit of the doubt after watching years of X-files, but his wife later confirmed he had mental illness. There was also a girl who claimed she was a reincarnated Jesus (lots of those). What scares me is many folks like this need medication or psychological help and not a psychic reading. Sedona is notorious for attracting all kinds of people who want healing. I got an instant education what to look out for.

If you do hear voices that are not helpful, find your moods seriously erratic, go get some help.* Get educated. Our bodies and minds are so complicated. Sometimes it’s just a hormone imbalance! We all have the ability to go a little off kilter in the most stressful times. (I’ve got a bit of OCD inherited from my grandmother. Thanks Nanny!)

And if you have more of a psychic intruder bothering you? Being a sensitive/psychic you could open some doors you don’t need to open to outside unhelpful energies attracted to your bright light. Learn clearing exercises and find someone who specializes in escorting them out.  I always call in Archangel Michael for the small jobs.

*Thanks to Anna who commented so I can clarify. Hearing negative voices telling you to hurt people or yourself  (not a good thing), WITH other signs, such as, very disordered, illogical  or paranoid thinking, delusions, dissociation, cutting, emotional instability, etc. can definitely be a sign of mental illness. Many of us who are mediums, can pick up entities that are negative and can affect us. See earthbound spirits above.

Guidance through dreams

Over at Julia’s Leonine Times, she mentions “So many of my friends as well as clients seemed to be in the midst of a personal armageddon.” (Do sign up for her newsletter. It’s very helpful.) Reading these words, I felt my body relax. We weren’t the only folks experiencing the crazyiness that is happening. Energetically what IS going on in the world? On the bigger scale, financially things are falling apart to be rebuilt. Makes sense, we all seem to be experiencing a painful rewiring and restructuring of our lives, as I described in my last post. In my life, this showed up as a crisis in our family  relationships. What HAS helped was my connection to Spirit.

When Foxy was dying, I had closed off. So many messages I was receiving were false or incorrect. (Turns out many well-meaning spirit relatives were trying to help me feel better with false “it will be fine.”) I wanted nothing of my Guides and helpers. I was angry and upset. They had promised she’d be here for another year or two! What I did trust was Foxy’s voice through it all, which was honest and true expressing what she was experiencing. A friend reminded me to lean on my helpers now when I need it the most, but I couldn’t. I didn’t trust it. What has come through in spite of my will, has been the enormous help I’ve had through the dream state. Every step of the crisis I would wake with profound knowing and understanding. Many of those times, I remembered being with Foxy’s spirit or dreaming of school. Through my dream state, true guidance could come through. Perhaps this is a different way, a restructuring of how I listen and receive guidance.

Crazy life and Foxy visit

I haven’t blogged. Our lives are crazy at the moment right now. We are moving again in a month–our lease is up and we would prefer more than one bathroom. 🙂 Our daughter Jessica, who we had adopted five years ago, is having major troubles with her old trauma coming up and I can’t even begin to discuss that here. So, sometimes, when life is doing a big clearing and healing, the picture doesn’t always look very good.

On the one very positive note, our Foxy’s spirit, as she had promised before she crossed, has been very active in helping us, including visiting one of my best friends to deliver some messages. Wendy called me and said, “What a night. Foxy just visited with a bunch of messages.” To add to the validation, her son woke from a dead sleep and muttered, “I didn’t sleep well last night. The dog kept talking to me.”

Last night I had the funniest dream mixed in with a visit. Foxy burst into the room riding a bicycle! I watched amazed her tackling this bike. It was a bit of a joke because when Foxy was alive, she was constantly pushing herself to learn and try things, and was determined to always heal everything that didn’t work in her body. I asked her how it was possible she was still here. And she said, she regenerated. She then turned into Demi Moore! She told me in her Foxy voice, “I wanted to continue being your teacher, Dear.” I told her I had plenty of questions, so we sat and talked. I woke with the best feeling, awashed in Foxy’s energy!

The Car Miracle

I had no idea how I was going to pay for my car repairs. I didn’t know the “how’s”, but I was beginning to understand the “why’s.” All I knew was that I needed a fixed car to drive or I was dead in the water. Some guidance came through, or perhaps ideas–my own mind grasping at how things should look. None of that played out.

The first miracle was when I broke down I was befriended by Jim, who works at the Coop store I ran to, that I have friends at. He sat with me most of the day, waiting for the tow, and recommended Miles at Frank’s Automotive. My car, affectionately called Uncle Peeby Jeeby, was towed to that shop at 6pm Friday.  I told my Dad the dilemma who offered to help with repairs number one (Miracle #2). Woo! Big relief and great assistance.

Now, how would I get Uncle to the body shop to repair his boo-boos from being hit and run while parked in the parking lot waiting for the tow (I kid you not). Miles, offered to drive Uncle to the next destination if I needed it, I’d need to call him later.

My insurance company had paid for a car rental, a very cute and fun convertible pt cruiser (miracle #3). I had just recently remarked I’d love a convertible. And, very cool, I had full coverage so rentals were covered.

My last hurdle was how to pay the $500 deductible I didn’t have for the body shop. The insurance was going to issue a check for the repairs sans that money. I just had to be honest. I called the body shop to arrange my car to get there, and sure enough, Miles had already drove it over. This is where it gets really good….I told Patti over at the body shop my dilemma. At first, she said, Could I pay the $500 in payments? I told her honestly, if I had that extra money I’d pay for Foxy’s dental (our red dog), who desperately needed it. Well, turns out Patti at Downtown Paint and Body is a dog person. Not only a dog person, but a BEAGLE person. Now for those of you who know me and my family and know my artwork, you know we are huge BEAGLE people, especially from being a beagle parents to Lilibeth and Jake for many years, and I grew up with a beagle Andyboy. So, we then talked beagles for awhile and beagle rescues and next thing you know, Patti waived the deductible!

I want to thank all my Angels and Guides and the hearts of all these people who were knee-deep in helping me learn how to trust the goodness of others. For a while there, I had even said, I trust my Guides & Angels, but people sure let you down. I had had a few experiences in the past few years that brought this home. As if the Universe would have no part of that nonsense, this drama played out. To be without a car, was the ultimate in surrender for me, and the folks along the way were each angels in their own right. Thank you for restoring my faith.

You have to ask

Today has been one of those interesting days. I am slowly learning you need to ask for help. I am always finding myself on my hands and knees when things are not doing well asking and praying for help and guidance. What if I just trusted and asked everyday? It’s funny how that is counter to what I have learned what strength is. I should be able to do it all alone, right? Forget that. Lean on your Angels, Spirit helpers, your soul and whatever you call God. Ask, ask, ask. Things have gone rather well the last few days after asking.

Another thing a wise person told me…I am not a religious person at all, but more spiritual perhaps. I don’t pray for forgiveness or from a place of wrong. I am even uncomfortable with the word “praying” which brings up images of churches and temples and should’s and should not’s. Look at this another way, I was told, we pray so we make our intentions and wants clear and known. How could anyone help us if we don’t say what we need? Cool…

It’s been crazy…lost dogs and others

I am amazed at this week’s happenings.

Bruiser the dog’s Mom emailed me that he had ran off again in another city. He gets spooked easily and they had been travelling to many new towns for her work on her books.  I’ve been exhausted lately with Foxy’s illness and now recovery, our beagle friend showing up and then leaving, so I wasn’t sure if I had the energy to help. I checked in and felt Bruiser’s confusion and fear, and only a few words. So, I did what I do before I teach a class, I ask my Guides and Angels to assist and guide me to teach and say the right things, after all, they are the experts. As soon as I did, the message I received was crystal clear and of a different nature. I was expecting directions to where he was, which he gave some landmarks, but instead, he delivered a personal message to Lorraine. Check out the story here.

Right along the same lines, during a meditation last week while our beagle friend was visiting, a vision of a golden retriever named Sally* stopped in with a message. She let me know this beagle was not Lilibeth, but a higher spirit who had come in to spread joy in the family after we were all exhausted and upset from Foxy’s illness and almost passing. Imagine my surprise when a client called several days later for an after-death session with a dog who looked exactly like the spirit who visited. The client’s nickname was Sally*! My dog client was actually a boy who used that name so Mom would know he visited and was aware of the reading. Many times animals do check me out first before a reading, and arrange the readings, and here was proof.

These incidents reminded me of how much everything is arranged behind the scenes–we only need to flow with it all, show up and do what we do. Amazing.
