So you are in a transition

Screen Shot 2014-07-31 at 2.26.56 PM

I write this as I adjust to stronger glasses I usually wear for driving only. My other glasses had “scratch guard” that rubbed right off. There are no coincidences. I was fighting change, but my soul was pushing me into bigger vision.

You might feel stuck in the middle of things that are dying and things that are being born.

You’re grounding underfoot is changing. It’s like a mini earthquake. Hold on tight.

You can taste the sweetness of glorious new beginnings, and the bitter taste of endings.

There’s anxiety as one door is closing, and the other door isn’t quite open yet, and you can’t find that door anywhere.

Breathe.

This isn’t a moment for being harder on yourself. Or feeling like a failure. It’s only change, and usually necessary change at that. It’s GROWTH, my Dear.

There is no map.

Panic.

Most of the biggest transitions in my life I have lived through somehow. Some I didn’t even see coming. But to a creative person being stagnant is worst then no change. That’s boring. There’s no material there to work with.

Take another breath.

You’re being guided even though it doesn’t feel that way. Those tiny whispers? That gut feeling? Those longings that keep punching at your belly? YOU know what to do, at least the next tiny step, even if it’s that one breath.

And what about all that stretching you are feeling? Yes, your legs feel longer, and your voice may be changing into a deeper tone. Just see it as a second or third or fourth puberty. That turned out okay and you weren’t sure then.

Ask yourself, “What do I REALLY want to do?”

You have what it takes. You will have what you need. There’s help even though you aren’t sure.

Much love and see you on the other side of this.

ACTIVITY TO INTEGRATE: Draw a map where you have been and where you want to go so you can see visually the big picture of the transition you are in. That drawn map might give you additional clarity.

I got the best birthday present the other day. A precopy of Somerset Studio magazine.

What’s this? I had just submitted an essay a month or two ago and hadn’t heard a thing.

Holy cows! What a fabulous and important gift from the Universe/God/Angels. I am beyond thrilled and a great way to start the new year.

It’s available now – January 1st – at most Barnes and Noble’s and Michael’s shops. And yup, national magazine and one of my favorites! Hope you like it and especially, hope you like the message in the essay.

It’s almost here…making a book

Screen Shot 2013-07-24 at 8.04.25 PM

Sharing the process of creating a book…

Yes, this will be easy. Just put the class into a book. It’s already written.

Oh, no, where’s that drawing? Does it even exist anymore?

I don’t like that part, or that part, and that part needs rewriting.

What a mess.

I need a whole new chapter 8!

Now that heading should be on THIS page, not that page. Why won’t it move?

Stupid computer program! Why the heck won’t that picture go there?

Oh, it looks good. I like this.

What do you mean the drawing isn’t 300dpi? I changed it three times. It SHOULD be 300dpi.

Head really, really hurts.

That font looks awful. Why does that font look awful? I don’t know. Time for cookies.

It’s really coming along!

I should have added this. But if I add this, I need to add this.

Still hate that chapter. How can I fix it?

That’s what I forgot to include!

That picture still looks weird.

Now I have to move everything around again. Pages aren’t lining up. Why do I do this? Am I crazy?

I can’t even look at it today. Where’s the cookies?

Wow, I like how it’s coming along. Everything is flowing nicely. It all looks seamless.

OMG! There’s a huge typo! Why didn’t I see that? Am I blind? What else did I miss?

Two friends don’t like the title. Crap.

Cute title! That will work.

Why didn’t it upload? I sat here for hours and it didn’t upload? I need to smack someone or something.

Almost done.

What if no one reads it? What if ends up in the discount pile bin in Walmart? Maybe I should tweak it a little here, a little there.

Time to just jump into the fire. It looks good. Reads well. I need to stop picking at it.

One more change…

Couldn’t sleep. Wondered if I should add a paragraph to chapter nine.

I think I just had an entire dream I edited the book in my sleep.

Ah, acceptance. It’s completed. Uploading and ready to go.

Well, that was easy. Let’s do it again! Next book…

Inspiration this week for Creative and Sensitive people

inspirationheader

It’s time to stay on track (the whole new year’s resolution thing) and it’s super easy to get thrown from our own passion and heart when you are a sensitive, creative person. There’s the creative ADD factor which pulls you to everything that is sparkly or shiny (part fairy trait), and then there’s the empathic factor that has you caught up in everyone’s stories whenever you stop by Facebook, or stop by shopping for a carton of milk and come home with a whole lot of energies beside your own. I’ve noticed I needed much more time and space alone in the morning first to reflect on my own journey and what I want to do or need. The one big thing that is helping me stick to my own map is inspiration from other kindred spirits who I resonate with.

Here’s this week’s inspiration:

Box of Crayons is my kind of company. They teach in fun, little videos (yay), think out of the box (double yay) and keep you thinking expansively. If you sign up at their site, you can receive a series of emails called Kickstarters that help you create your “GREAT WORK.” Check them out here.

Hopefully, my own little videos will inspire you to create and follow your favorite medium of expression, whether writing, drawing or sewing. Here’s my new video blog here. (I’d love to have you subscribe so you can be alerted of new videos, hint hint).

Inspiration can come in weird places, especially when you are seeking it out. I found Mary Engelbreit’s Home Companion magazine in a thrift store recently and remembered how deeply I loved it. It was perfect for sensitive artists, and had amazing quotes like “My work is a gift to myself,” from artist Maura Grace Ambrose. It’s ideal for clipping and making life collages. I just bid on a lot of the mags on Ebay. Cross your fingers I get it.

Until next time, Fairy blessings,

Designing Fairy

It’s My Birthday What I’ve Learned List

I’ve always seen birthdays as the beginning of a new year. It’s at that time, we look over our lives and do a sum-up or a “where am I now” assessment. If it’s been a bad year, the birthday can be a little tough to handle. A good year, a breeze. This year, I look back and see a beautiful yet challenging year of real growth. Before I move forward, I’d like to reflect on what I learned. Maybe you can relate to some of these lessons. Drum roll please.

  1. There are many avenues to solve a problem or find answers. There is no ONE WAY. This includes in medicine, religion, and in life.
  2. Love, real love endures, and can’t be destroyed.
  3. Never leave hamburger in your garbage can for too long unless you like lots of crawly bugs. (Maggot Invasion of 2011)
  4. Trust in your guidance, but not blindly. Keep track of what you are receiving and what was a truth for you. We build trust with our spiritual helpers just like in any other relationship. You are creating a solid foundation.
  5. You know what is best for you.
  6. DO NOT leave out sweet potatoes on the counter unless you want them to be stolen. Protect what matters to you.
  7. People will surprise you–in good ways and in bad, but don’t lose hope in people. Encourage the good. It’s their choice from there. And some folks are just so broken they can’t  “act good.”
  8. The greatest joys are in the simple acts of love — being cuddled, a wet nose up against yours, a kind word from a friend, a heart-spoken loving letter.
  9. Sometimes it’s not your battle.
  10. We all just really want to be seen. (Think the movie AVATAR).
  11. I NEED to draw and write. It’s not a fun hobby. It’s my soul’s voice.
  12. True friends will hear you and what really matters to you and how you feel. And will HONOR that. I am grateful for mine.
  13. We sure don’t need to recreate our childhood patterns over and over, and yet we do. The key is to figure it out and get to those core beliefs that aren’t yours and throw them away. Then, with understanding you can have compassion for yourself and others. We are all just learning.
  14. God sent down dogs and cats so we can have just the slightest idea of what loving really is like. We had forgotten.
  15. Don’t eat a whole bag of microwave popcorn in one sitting.
  16. You can survive anything with good, consistent support; most of the time.
  17. Fairy energy is the key to happiness.
  18. We are connected to those we love. No amount of physical separation matters. They are  just a thought or feeling away.
  19. You have needs too and are just as important as everyone else’s.
  20. The key against abuse is to tell your story. Abuse is about powerlessness and stifling your voice. Let your voice be heard. That’s where your real power is.
  21. Critical people are usually just pissed off.
  22. I close with the words from a great movie, The Help. “You is kind. You is smart. You is important.”

Happy Holidays everyone! Fairy blessings,

Ronni
