I’m learning joy from a puppy

After some very traumatic yet fascinating experiences–I am learning so much–my goal is to regain joy. Not always an easy thing to do when you’ve been bathed in fear and grief. But somewhere underneath the weeds is the flower!

Emma Lou, our reincarnated basset hound, represents joy to me. She can’t wait to wake up in the morning and play with her toy basket, knock over each toy, explore shoes, and chase her sister around. After being in pain for the past week, I, on the otherhand, have dreaded mornings, but Emma is teaching me otherwise. You would think her day would be boring, but she is the epitomy of simplicity. And it is the simple things that give her the most joy. She loves the sun on her belly, a piece of string gives her moments of fun (I’d say hours but we are talking puppy here), and whenever she sees one of her sisters, she eggs them on to play. We had this “skill”as children, I am sure. How did many of us lose this?

When I was writing and compiling my book, The Fairy Field Guide, the Fairies and Nature Spirits had a continuous message–to bring in joy. Joy was the key to abundance, to happiness, to health. My greatest challenge has been holding on to joy in the midst of deep sadness, disappointment and even, loss of hope. I am finding that my essential nature and soul IS joyous–it’s my natural state, so I am like one big rubber band–always bouncing back to finding that joyful place.

I watched an Academy Award-winning movie on DVD yesterday, Cold Mountain. What the characters endured was the complete opposite of joy, and yet by the end of the movie, they are seen enjoying life and its bounty full-heartedly. I was amazed. After everything they had experienced, wouldn’t you have been broken, shut down from life? Perhaps by feeling the worst of this world they had a greater appreciation for what is joyful and bright. Perhaps they held onto the tiny bit of joy that was hidden in the dark? As an empath and a sensitive, it is all too easy to get lost in the dark and what I feel around me. Maybe the solution is to pull out that joy and that light–the flower– that is hidden in the dark.

Earth Energies now

So, what’s going on in the world now? I think many of us who are sensitive are feeling lots of changes in the air. If you are empathic, you are probably picking up on a great deal of free-floating fear that may be bringing up your own. I have felt a great deal of change in my own life wanting to be stirred up! On a positive note, my talks with my Angels & Guides has increased. I wanted to know why my feeling of lack of support lately was originating. Imagine my surprise when I was pulled outside of myself to see the big picture! I was shown and taught that I came here to SEE what happens when there are many conditions place on me with a delayed or lack of reward. I needed to learn how to reward myself, and once again, focus on what feeds and nurtures me and gives me the most joy (a frequent Fairy teaching I’ve received).

I love these big picture knowings from the Angels, but they it is not always easy to make that shift in the practical world, is it? I was advised to work with the OAK tree to help with this shift and all the crazy shifts I was currently experiencing in my body lately, since the lunar eclipse (darn moon feminine energy!)

Negativity–someone else’s poop

How do you know you’ve been exposed to negativity? You feel bad. Out and out bad. It can be your own worst thoughts, messages from childhood, other people’s poop, violence on tv, or even someone else’s aggressive behavior.  When I encounter negativity, whether the words were “well-meaning” or not, my head will hurt right in my psychic spot. If I ignore that feeling, the ache will increase. If the room is filled with negativity, my stomach may even hurt. Our bodies are instant barometers of what is good for us and what is bad. I love how simple it can be. For instance, a friend gives you a criticism. If it is a truth, it will resonate. Your body may tense for a moment, but then it will relax a bit in that truth. If it was someone else’s poopy disguised as help, this is how it will feel: BAM! OUCH! YUCK! You may even feel shame, bad, and you will lose energy like you are standing in quicksand. You’ve been just been doused with negativity, regardless of how well-meaning it was, your body knew the truth. Don’t make your self wrong–that feeling you had is right. Run away! Don’t walk to the nearest exit. Create a boundary this minute. Put up that wall.

My Guides taught me that it is perfectly okay to walk away and leave a room. My husband and I were once in a room with a doctor who was supposably helping our daughter. He began to speak pure drivel at one point and was not listening to us, lost in his own world. I remembered the Guides advice and a good friend that told me I can always leave to say I’m going to the bathroom. No one disputes that. I excused myself with that excuse in hand, and never came back! I headed straight to the car (after telling my husband what I was doing). If I stayed one more minute arguing with that man, I would have suffered. He didn’t care, he was oblivious.

It helps to know that many times it IS someone else replaying their own poop, so then you can detach and walk away. To the sensitive, you’ve usually picked up a bit anyway, so walking will help you detach and see what is yours and what isn’t. With the Nature Spirits advice, I made Pumpkin essence, which is great for clearing out others’ stuff after you’ve picked it up. This has been a God-send many times over.

And one more thing, always look for intentions. WHY is someone saying something to you? Is their intention good? To really help? Or is it so they feel superior? Like the “friend” who corrects your spelling when you share your intimate piece of poetry? (Again, that’s someone else’s poop).

Animal cards

I just did an animal card reading and picked two appropriate cards–Dove, which is moving between cycles and worlds and Swan (new dreams and new realms), which confirms that I am in that in-between state, where you are leaving the old, but the new hasn’t arrived yet. I bet most of us are in that boat. It is so tempting to do the old stuff, isn’t it? Harder to just have faith the new will arrive shortly.
